Yahweh and Yahweh Yireh
In our third session, we look at the names Yahweh and Yahweh Yireh, seeing how God has revealed His personal name, Yahweh, and how he has presented Himself as "Provider".
Introduction
God first revealed Himself as Elohim in scripture, but when He began a relationship with the people of Israel, He revealed a new, more personal name. Yahweh, meaning Lord, reveals a new facet of God's character and His desire for personal interaction with Israel. This name became highly sacred and protected by the Hebrew people. We also see how God has revealed Himself as Yahweh Yireh, "Provider", not only in a physical, material sense but also in our salvation through Christ.
